If you remember from my last post about the fabulous Denali plane ride... you know that this guy spent last week with us...
Ah. That would be Paulie. The Best Man in our wedding. Our dear friend that helped make our years in Charleston so memorable. He is so special to us and we were so excited he chose to spend his week of vacation in the frozen tundra known as Alaska. When he made his reservation to visit... I was slightly concerned that since it was not tourist season... there would be nothing for him to do! Boy was I wrong. Monday was spent touring Denali... and then Tuesday the guys took our ATVs on a 50 mile round trip adventure to the Knik Glacier!

Wow. 50 miles on the ATVs in the winter! BRRR! The coolest thing that came out of this adventure (for me anyway... ;o) was that as soon as Z got back... he bought and installed handlebar warmers! YAHOOO! Think seat warmers but for your hands. Mmm. Super exiting stuff.
Anyway... on Wednesday the guys had not had enough of the snow yet so they got up super early and headed down the Seward Highway to... Seward! ;o) They went on a snow machine tour of Exit Glacier and had another awesome adventure. Insert jealous wife here. I spent the week working. Of course.
They were slightly lazy on Thursday... they only went cross country skiing for a few hours and skeet shooting... ;o) But that is because we were resting up for a long but super fun day of skiing on Friday! We were up nice and early and off to Alyeska we went! I LOVE the drive to Girdwood! It is my favorite part of the Seward Highway! And Friday morning did not disappoint!

After skiing for about 7 hours... we packed up and headed home because we had to get Paulie ready for his flight home that night. Major bummer. Time flies when you are having fun! So boy was I wrong when I thought there would be nothing to do visiting Alaska in the winter! He got to see Denali from a plane, visit Exit Glacier via snow machine, visit Knik Glacier via ATV, downhill ski, cross-country ski and go skeet shooting! ALL IN FIVE DAYS! What an action packed week for my sweet husband and his friend! Zach is still tired from all the fun adventures! But the weekend was just getting started when Paul had to leave us. Fur Rondy started this weekend in preparation for the Iditarod next weekend... but more on that later... ;o)
Thank you Paulie for taking the time to come and visit us in Alaska! We love and miss you very much and cannot wait to see you again! Thank you for choosing us for your only week long vacation for the year! We had a wonderful time and cannot wait to hang out again soon!
We love having visitors and it looks like this summer is going to be full of them! Mom and Daddy are coming! Aunt Peggy is coming! And hopefully a visit from the O'Dells! Anyone else?!! Get your reservations in for Case De Coburn! :o) The more the merrier!
If you were coming to Alaska... what would you want to see and do?
